Fishing Trip to Finland – 2025-2026
Explore the land of lakes, silence, and trophy pike
Finland – A Paradise for Anglers
Finland is a true fishing paradise, offering thousands of beautiful waters perfect for spinning, fly fishing, and even trolling.
The fishing season typically starts at the end of April and lasts until late November.
As the country with the most lakes in the world, Finland provides an endless variety of fishing opportunities — with over 10% of its surface covered by water.
Whether you prefer fishing near a city or exploring a wild, remote lake deep in nature, Finland has it all.

Facts About Finnish Waters
-
87,888 lakes – the most in the world
-
647 rivers covering over 25,000 km
-
1,100 km of Baltic Sea coastline, including vast archipelagos
-
The Finnish Lake District – Europe’s largest continuous lake area
Unlike crowded destinations, Finland offers space, peace, and silence — a rare experience in today’s world.
Here, you fish surrounded only by the sound of nature.
Fish Species & Seasons
The main predatory species are pike, zander, and perch — all thriving in Finland’s clean, cold waters.
Catching a pike over 1 meter is not unusual!
| Species | Season |
|---|
| Pike | 15.05 – 30.11 |
| Perch | 01.06 – 30.11 |
| Zander | 10.06 – 15.09 |
| Salmon | 13.05 – 10.06 and 01.09 – 30.11 |
During winter, the lakes freeze, but local anglers continue their tradition of ice fishing, drilling holes through the ice.

Fishing Licenses
If you are between 18 and 64 years old, you need a national fishing license to fish in Finland.
This license is valid almost everywhere (except a few special areas and rivers) and covers one rod per person.
You must pay the fee before fishing and keep proof of payment (receipt, fishing card, or bank slip) with you.
Companions who don’t fish (like a boat driver) don’t need a license.
Cost: approx. €16 per person / per week
Accommodation – Cabins by the Water
A cozy cabin by the lake full of big fish — that’s every angler’s dream.
In Finland, it can easily become reality.
You’ll find a wide variety of accommodation options:
